Before taking driving lessons you must:
- Be at least 17 years old (or 16 years old if you are in receipt of full rate motability allowance)
- Be able (with glasses or contact lenses if you require them) to read a car number plate 20.5m away.
- Be medically fit to drive
- Hold a provisional licence.

Driving Lessons
Apply for a Provisional Licence if you:
- Are a resident of Great Britain?
- Can meet the minimum age and eyesight requirements
- Are currently not prevented from driving for any reason
- Can pay by credit or debit card
- Have a valid UK passport or another form of identity
- Can provide addresses of where you have lived over the last three years
- Have a working printer connected to your computer (required for online application).

Please Note:
It will normally take around 2 to 3 weeks for your application to be processed.
The current cost is £45 for a provisional licence, with a free upgrade to a full licence when you pass.
